Tachometer low reading

Hi everyone,
Recently I installed four stroke engine tachometer on my 2 stroke engine.

Maximum RPM I reached was 2300.

I think that something is abnormal.

Please advice why tachometer is shows such low RMP

try setting the tach for the correct alternator pole setting.
typically most 50 hp and above 4 stroke yamahas set at 12 pole.

How did this work for you? If successfull, what did you change? I think I have the same problem on my 96" 60 hp.
