Motor dies when choke is pushed in

I have a 2002 8hp 4 stroke kicker motor. The motor starts fine with the choke on but dies immediately the second the choke is pushed in. The main motor runs off the same fuel supply and runs fine. I would appreciate any thought or recommendations. Thanks!

time to clean the carb.
with the choke out you force it rich, choke in the pilot fuel circuit takes over.
yours is plugged.
