Another question for Rodbolt17

I have been looking at all the parts diagrams for the 115,150,175,200 h.p motors and all the diagrams show the new style pressure control valve with the stem in the block and not in the spring and housing. I replaced mine and put the stem in the spring and the mushroom head against the water jacket/block. Which way is the right way to install this valve ????
