Yamaha Dual Control Keyswitch Buzzer died

  • Yamaha Dual Control Keyswitch Buzzer died

    I have a nearly new Yamaha dual keyswitch part number 6K1-82570-08-00 (non command link)

    For some reason the starboard engine buzzer just stopped working completely.

    The port buzzer is fine, but the starboard one doesn't make a sound when the key switch is turned on anymore. Otherwise the keyswitch appears to be working normally.

    Is there a wiring diagram/schematic for this keyswitch and the connection to the engine?

    Any troubleshooting tips would be appreciated.

    Most of the time, removal of the keyswitch assembly and the replacement of a an inoperative warning horn is pretty straightforward for the mechanically inclined person.

      Replacing the buzzer if it is defective appears to be pretty easy.

      However it is prudent to see if the buzzer is dead before ordering and installing a replacement.

      That's why I asked for a schematic and diagnostic information. To answer questions such as:

      - What DC voltage drives the buzzer?

      - What circuit actuates the buzzer? Is the buzzer con*****ed directly from the engine or is it con*****ed via some electronics in the encapsulated package at the rear of the keyswitch?

      - Could the problem be at the motor end of the circuit?

      I do not intend to replace parts without figuring out what's actually wrong first.

      If anyone has a schematic and parts list for the non-command link dual key switch that would be helpful.

      Or diagnostic hints from anyone who has encountered this symptom in the past.

        its a stupid simple 12v dc buzzer.
        at key on power,if rigged correctly, the DES switch provides the ground for a key on power test.
        after that the pink wire provides the ground path.
        a quick test for V4 and larger US market engines?
        simply pull the stop lanyard and crank the engine.
        if V4 and larger engines get a crank signal and a stop signal at the same time the ECU sets the alarm.
        but, its a simple two wire buzzer.
        yellow is key on 12V+, pink sets the ground path via the ECU.
