  • Engine oil tank not filling.

Had low oil light come on and reduction in RPM’s. Boat is a Nautical Star 22 bay with 150 Yamaha 2 stroke (2004), analog gauges, but has a low oil warning light. Checked engine oil tank and found it low. Filled with oil and warning light went away. I tried to fill using the emergency fill switch on the motor, but nothing happened. I assume the big tank in the boat has a bad pump. Is there a way to test the pump with a multimeter?

    yes, there is.
one meter lead in the blue bullit connector at the pump, the other to a good engine ground.
key on should read 12V with the pump off.
if not move the lead to the brown.
if you have 12V on the brown and not the blue the pump failed.
if the key on 12V is there between the blue and the block, manualyy attempt a transfer.
voltage should drop to between about .2 and no more than .5 V.
if its higher than fix the bad connections.
this is a very simple system that kicks tech ****.
its the most failed area on the master technician exam.

      Thanks Rodbolt!
If the pump is shot can I replace just the pump or do I need to replace the whole tank assembly

        pump is replacable.
can also be tested by hooking the brown wire to 12V positive and the blue wire to negative.
key on the brown wire is 12V+ the current return path(ground) is via the blue wire.
