If it will not fill in the 180 seconds then it sounds like a problem.

It turned out it has a airlock from the main tank running low.....Now refilling in 180 secs.

But the good news is that I think I have the problem solved

After doing all the test you guy's suggested & all were good and in spec, and not sure what else to do, my wife reminded me the problem started the day one of the carbi's were seized when I tried to start the motors and I had given it a knock to get it loose.

Because the oil lights were flashing and it felt like it went into a limp, I just presumed all the problems were oil related, but it turns out it was actually due to dirty jets in the lower carbi. That is why we never had a alarm go off. It wasn't in limp mode

I saw another thread on the forum about highspeed jets and the fact they only kick in at higher RPM under load. When I checked the bottom carbi, there were lots of gravel in the carbi Bowl, and when I washed the carbi out more came out. I took it off, and gave it a thorough clean (LOTS of scale), put it back and my RPM at idle went from 700 to 1400

I reset the idle back down to 700rpm, took it on the water and she flew. BIG relief!!

So thanks to each and every one that gave advice and took the time to try help me solve the problem...in the process I have learned a heap about my motor and the checks I need to do, which I'm sure will serve me well in years to come.

      Much appreciated

Well, we should have had you check the timing with a timing light when the problem was happening. The timing is how the limp mode controls the RPM from what I under stand.
Sounds like you may need to pull and clean all the carbs, pumps, and lines and see about installing a 10 micron filter . I wonder what your tank looks like if you ended up with that in the bottom carb.
Sure hope you have not hurt any pistons from running lean.

No doubt from ethanol. Been searching a lot of these carb problem posts. It seems like the best thing to do for a layup is to drain the carb bowls, even if the fuel is treated. Just wish there was a way to reach in there without having to take off the silencer.

I will def be doing the other 2 carbi's as well (although the carbi bowls for them were clear) and installing a better filter and also a water trap for the fuel line.

I had drained the little fuel that was in the tank when I got it so all fuel was fresh and didn't notice any obvious problem, so feel the problem might have been condensation related as the boat had stood in a boat yard with very little fuel for a long time not running other than one or two 'test runs"

Pistons all look good with the Camera Scope (I'm a diesel mac, but no experiance in outboards) so I dont think there was any damaged done.
