Flywheel marking

There is one marking under the flywheel.What does the marking for?Does the marking is the time for the plug to ignite?If the timing is not set properly what will be the result?Mine is 2 stroke yamaha 85hp

It's for setting pulsor coil and linkage, you need to get a service manual to properly set timing and linkage adjustment. Serious engine damage could result if timing is not set correctly.

Before i set the btdc following the factory manual which is the timing was to high the boat was cruising fast(60kmp/h)but when following the manual the speed was reduced to 51kmp/h).is this possible.I was expecting when following the manual the engine will give me better performance.Any comment?
