  • Oil seal under water pump

RE S200TXRW Yep, just bought a new/old boat so I got lot's of stuff to ask...
Replacing water pumps and wondering if I should replace the seal under the pump plate since I'm going to be in there. Looks to be 2 seals with a retainer on top held down by the water pump plate. Motors have 900 hrs and this may be good PM. The parts fiche shows what appears to be a some type circlip in there also?? Is this an easy replacement or am I opening a can of worms?

I have several F150's with almost 3000 hours and these are all on the original prop shaft and input shaft oil seals. These do not seem to give any problems.
I would say, if it aint broke, don't fix it!

I would atleast drain the lower unit oil to make sure no water is getting in, because if it is..your seal might have a leak. I just recently had to change the 2 seals under the plate. Not too bad of a job, and now my lower unit is lubricated by oil instead of water.
