I am in the process of obtaining a 40hp yahama that has had considerable use in salt water. I am going to use it in fresh water. Is there anything maintance wise that I should consider doing to prevent perhaps problems later on.
I will use this motor in a lot of shallow water for which i will have to tilt the motor and provide prop protection. Any ideas or suggestions on this. New river in wv is rocky and shallow.

Remove gearcase and replace water pump, grease all shaft splines and bolts, remove prop and grease prop shaft, change gearcase oil.
Clean engine and spray with corrosion block or silicone spray. Grease all fittings, cables and linkage.
