I have a 1994 Yamaha ProV 150 TLRS.
I'm in the process of removing the forward drive gear in my lower unit. Removing the retaining nut is my problem right now. What type specialty tools do I need to use?
I got the first retaining nut removed and locking washer also.
Now my question is if the third layer in is either "a press in" or "threaded"
and what tools would I need to remove without stripping threads before I pull it?
My boat initially started making a grabbing sound at about 45 MPH I believe in the lower unit area. It felt like something grabbing the gears every other second or two.
I shut off the motor.I then restarted it, ran at idle speed of 10mphwith no problems and it sounded ok unitl I gave I accelerated faster and the grabbing sound started again. Spark plugs seem to be ok.
We did find some fine metal shavings in lower unit fluid.
Any ideas on this problem???
