by this time the bowls are off and on the bench.
if the bowl is equipped with the 10mm brass hex drains, those cross drilled brass things rot with age.
occasionally they twist off for no apperant reason.
luckily they are typically easy to get out.
kinda like the big brass plugs on the top of the carb body.
occasionally the carb casting cracks on removal.
there is NOTHING under that plug other than the idle transfer ports.
typically NO gasoline sits there anyway.
so if it did not sink I typically dont remove them.
gotta use some common sense then understand what and how this carb works then they get simple.
