  • TLC for 25 four stroke

    Hello all

I have searched threads and hope I am not asking a common question.

I have a 25hp 2005 high thrust four stroke. It has been on my 38ft catamaran for 5 years and has been flushed about 3 times (every time I antifoul). It has been serviced but the mechanic has never adjusted the valves. He says they never go out. I would like to do a major service on it myself and would like to go after the salt that is probably in it.

I am am happy to get a good manual and work through it but a couple of questions first. As a cruiser I would like to know my motor very well so I can fix it if it goes wrong somewhere. (It has been a very solid motor so far)

Would the internal anode be a problem yet?
How do I best check for salt in the guts?
Is saltaway good enough or should I pull it down and look inside?
Can a reasonable amateur (I have built as few boats) do a major service on this type of motor?

    Thanks

    Phil Thompson

The anodes would need to be replaced and you would be able to get an idea from them and the block on how much corrosion may be in block.
