  • Sheared Flywheel

Got a 2003 115 hp with a 240hrs on her. Any experience out there with shearing the flywheel off? Stator and flywheel shot a G for parts.

Did the crank shaft break off ? Did the woodruff key fail ? If it is the later there is an internal failure beginning! The sudden micro second the sized the flywheel keeps trying to spin shearing the woodruff key and the engine freed up.

If the crank sheared off it is a similar situation. The difference is the internal issue caused the crank to continually flex breaking it off. Still internal damage.

Last is that it was just a bad crank and you are still going to have to rebuild it. YES you are going to have to either rebuild your powerhead or replace it with a reman even if it just sheared the woodruff key. If you replace the stator, flywheel and woodruff you will find that it will happen again and or be worse the next time. So that would mean you through away that first thousand dollars.

      Food for thought.
