My 225 4 stroke sounds loud at 4000 doing only 20mph on a 2470 Pursuit. Seems like it should be more quiet and doing about 26mph according to the specs. Any ideas of things to check?

This may be one of the harmonics of the motor and it should quiet out with more RPMs. Could be that 4000rpm is the resonant frequency of the motor that is bolted to you boat. There are so many factors that are related to noise and how loud things sound. The same motor on two different boats can night and day.

Is 4000 rpm the max you get at w/o throttle? If so, then your prop has too much pitch - need to drop down in pitch to get mid-range of what your owners manual says for max rpm (6000?).
