  • 115 break in

I bought a G3 pontoon boat w/ 115 yamaha back in April 2010. I have 60 hours on it now and have rising oil levels.....My dealer says that I need to run it wide open for an entire tank of fuel to seat the valves. I argued that I broke the engine in exactly as the op. manual says. The dealer also gave me a copy of the break in procedure upon purchase to verify that I knew how to do it.
Computor check says that I have around 25 hours below 2000 rpm, 25 between 2000 and 3000, another 9 hours at the 3000-5000 rpm and only one hour above 5000. I argue that this is typical for pontoon boats. I don't usually run wide open throttle.
    Any thoughts?

Yea, this is known as "making oil". Sort of common, but not overly common. There are a couple of solutions, and the most tried and tested one floating around the internet is exactly what you were told.

I had the same issue, and after some hard running, it is much better. Ring free is the other thing you hear.

Yamaha 4 strokes like to be run hard.
