What is the right prop for a 40TRLD?

I purchased a used G3****en Eagle 175 with a Yamaha 40TRLD outboard. The previous owner had re-proped the motor with a Quicksilver 2082 R14 3 blade prop. I think he over proped the motor as it will not come up to anywhere near the top rpm range. What was the original factory prop range? Or, what would be a good prop range to be able to get to the 5500 rpm range for this motor?

Not sure, we are not a G3 dealer and not sure what they used on that boat. yamaha has performance bulletins on their web site but I didn't see that boat package listed, you can look at Performance Bulletin Home

Are you sure that the tach is accurate?

When I bought my boat the tach wouldnt go any higher than 3000 RPM for a 50 HP 2 stroke yet the boat still went 35 MPH ( GPS Confirmed) which according to all performance tests I found was not possible at 3000 RPM.

Turned out to be the tach was not connected properly.
