  • 175 melt down on 1 piston.

right before bass season and my 1989 175 just blew up on me! I took it apart the other night and only one piston is cooked. All white and melted looking. The others all seem fine and the motor turns over. Any ideas what may have caused this?? No oil to only one cylinder?? I plan on just honning out the cylinders and putting new pistons in, do you guys think this will work??
    Thanks,
    Bill

I remember seeing a post on here about the same thing. Guy was a commercial fisherman on the Great Lakes and he sent the block out for honing and used Wisco pistons. He said it ran like a raped ape when he finished. I believe it was a 225 HP.

A very lean fuel mixture on that cylinder is most likely the culprit and you'll need to fix that also or it'll just fry it again. Good Luck!
