89 Yamaha 150

My 150 has lost power (starts fine, idles fine) and the mechanic says I need a new power pack based on voltages to the spark plugs. Seems to make sense however, what is a power pack specifically.. ? Is it just one part? Has anyone else experienced the loss of power and replaced the power pack and regained power?

Yamaha calls it a CDI unit. Its the ignition control unit, it can cause the engine to lose fire to the cylinders.
