Ive got a 1985 40esk. It idles fine, nice and smooth. Problem is powering up it wants to cutout and acts like a revlimiter. Has anyone experienced this. Its not peeing very hard, constant flow but kinda just dribbling out. No alarms are going off. I just picked up the motor today so any help or direction is greatly appreciated.

Check compression and spark on all cylinders.
check timing to see if it is doing its thing according to the manual.
If all is good with these at the problem rpm then look at the fuel side.
Pump, carbs, lines ,etc.
Get a Yamaha service manual it will save you time and money
Change the thermostat and pump
