Control cable bracket on 70HP

I am in the process of fitting a 1989 70hp Yamaha to my boat. Can anyone tell me if there is supposed to be a locking bracket at the point where the control cables enter the motor. I know the cables run through a rubber block with a plate clamping it down securely, but should there be a clamp that fits in the groove of the cable to stop it from moving backwards and forwards? Does something fit into the little square hole in the clamping plate? Any help (or even a photo) would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
