  • changing oil.. general service

    hey guys..

    just picked up a sailboat with a yamaha outboard motor. it's a T9.9ELHP .. high thrust 9.9 from 1991

anyway.. i'd like to do a service on it but the dealer wants 140 bucks for the manual.. which is a no-go. i build motorcycles and work on cars in my spare time.. so i am sure this will not be a tough one.

but, having no experience working out outboards.. is there anything special i need to concern myself with doing general maintenance? i'd like to change the oil, the plug(s), the air filter and fuel filter..

where do i drain the oil, and can i do it with the motor mounted on the back in an upright position?

any tips or help would be appreciated.. or if you know where i can get a manual for (a lot) less, that would be great..

also.. if someone knows the oil capacity as well that would be great.

    thanks
