  • trim/tilt leaking oil

I have been having a problem with my trim.tilt assembly leaking oil for past 2 seasons. My mechanic told me that the piston shaft has a pit on it, and oil leaks past seal. He said the whole assembly needs to be replaced. I have been adding oil every time I use boat. This last for the day only.
My question, is there a way to replace shaft and seals while motor on boat. I trailer so access no problem, and will this take care of problem? Is this something I can do myself? Also my concern is that if oil is leaking out, water is possible leaking past seal and getting in. If so, can i remove. Is it worth it to replace. Any help, please,

Don't know what motor you have or which cylinder is leaking but if it's the center tilt cylinder then may have to remove power trim unit to get shaft out.
