  • 1988 c85 multiple problems and questions

First off, check comp., cleaned carbs numerous times all the things that you look at first!!!! This motor is for a friend of mine that ive been helping to figure out the problems for the past month or so. First problem was water getting into cyl. 2 & 3, resolved this with all new gaskets, head, water jacket, exhaust housing & power head gaskets. Also while we had the powerhead off we replaced the lower seals and orings in the lower seal housing. This fixed the water into the cyl. problem, but still running the same, #2 cyl fires runs at idle but 1 & 3 have fire but will not pull at idle but will start to run at WOT only. I believe that i may have found this problem from another post. The fuel pump diaphram pulling feul directly into the crankcase causing the cylinders to load up with fuel. OK, now my question and statement is when I disconnected the vacuum or fuel line that goes from the lower seal housing CHECK VALVE to the top cyl it starting running fine??????
And I also noticed ton's of fuel at this hose, diaphram problem also i am hoping????? What is the purpose of these check valves and the small vacuum lines running from and to the different cylinders on the opposite side of the fuel pump????????? Thanks for any help or pointers guys, much appreciated!!

Also guys the compression is 105 across the board, another question about the reeds. When we pull the read cages I held them up to the light and noticed that they had barely a little daylight coming through at the sides only. How much would this affect fuel transfer to the cylinders???? Or just check the fuel pump and role with it if that fixes the problem???

That hose is recirculating hose to recirculate puddled fuel and oil. Sounds like need new fuel pump. Seeing a little light through reeds is ok.
