My 1998 250 has a digital tac with a trim indicator. All the way down is 5 bars, full up trim shows 4. Is there a way to readjust this so it show the full range of trim?

Go to www.Yamahapubs.com and buy a service manual for your motor.

I have both a service manual and an owner's manual and I cannot find any info on this issue.

Sounds like the trim indicator sender unit has failed. Usually when the trim indicator sensor goes bad it is because it sticks due to corrosion (won't return to it's original spring loaded position). what you describe sounds like an internal failure of the device. There is some adjustment but it is really to calibrate the trim indicator sender. Try lubricating the sender unit and working it manually back and forth. If no improvement, repalce the unit, it is relatively inexpensive and the average diy can accomplish this in about 10-15 minutes.
