This engine is new to me and I was doing some routine maintenance, removing the fuel filter (on the motor)and checking the screen. I noticed a small pet**** with a red handle downstream from the filter but before the fuel pumps. The pet**** is marked "on/off" and the line appears to go to the top of the intake manifold.

What is the function of this valve and what position should it be in in normal operation.

Also, what is the recommended prop size for this motor (heavy boat- 23' seacraft cuddy)

    Many thanks

    TMO -
I am running a OX-66 250 on my 1977 23ft SeaCraft - after trying several props the 19 pitch large diamater Yamaha 7-M prop worked best for me.

I bet the red valve you mentioned is to run carb cleaner into the carbs??

Not sure but that's my best guess.

      Thanks Fishjack,

      I'll try that prop.

      As to the mystery pet****:

It's an emergency valve in case of high pressure pump failure. Apparently, due to this pump, an otherwise workable engine would not function, but by using this bypass, you could limp home by bulb pressure and carb venturi alone.

At least that was what the mechanic told me. I wouldn't want to try it
