My old tach went south so I bought an new (used)one. Guess what? The plugs don't match. I've been told that I can make it work by removing the plug and using butt connectors but the wire colors may not match up correctly. Have any of y'all ever done this successfully and if so do you remember which wire goes where? Thanks in advance.

What year and model is your outboard and is it a digital or analog tach. -
It's a '96 digital. The tachs look identical except for the plug.Comment

If your motor is a 1996 it uses the newer harness so the tach you bought must be a 1993 or older.There may still be adapter's available to connect the harness but we would have to know what HP the engine is in order to check availabilty.Comment
