1999 40 hp thermoswitch

My motor has two thermoswitches. The top one has orange and orange/green wires and switches closed at 130 degrees F. The lower one has pink and black wires and closes at 180 F. The pink and black wires set the alarm off when joined. Is the top thermoswitch reading properly at 130 F.
What is the purpose of this switch. I can not find it in my manual.
