  • bad fuel pump

can anyone tell me how to test the fuel pumps on a 92 200hp? if i replace them, do i need to order any other parts to reinstall? Thanks

I am seeking the same feedback. I believe only 1 of my 2 pumps may be functioning and hence causing the oily plugs that foul. I would like to know what quick test I can run in my garage on a muff to test which is working. You can find OEM replacements for under $50.

Read this post on another forum thread:

easier to leave hooked to hoses, pump ball and if gas comes out of vac port in rear, replace

I am going to the garage right now to run the test. will post results later.

Fortunately/Unfortunately - no leaking out the vac port on either one. I am going to order new gaskets/diaphram as long as they are apart and Now I have removed them from the engine.

My Prov V 200 has 2 pumps. Both on the left side just behind carb air inlet. There are 2 10MM bolts that hold the pump to the engine block.

To do the test, it takes 2 people. Do not disconnect the gas lines. Remove the 2 bolts and carefully separate the pump from the block there is a gasket between the pump and the block. Be careful not to lose track of it. Pull the pump so you can see the hole in on the back side that is between the 2 bolts that you removed. Have someone squeeze the primer bulb and watch for any gas coming out of the hole. If you see that - your gaskets are bad. In my case, I did not see that. Bolt the original back on making sure your gasket is in place between the pump and the engine block. Then follow the same process for pump 2. See of gas runs out of the hole in the back.

If you have gas leaking, you can either order replacement gaskets (if you are handy and alert to carefully note exact placement of the originals), or you can order a whole pump for under $50.

I pulled mine out of the lines. Have a rag handy as gas flows out of the pumps. I removed the 3 screws and decided to check the insides, out of my never ending curiosity to see how things work and doubting the simplicity of the above test. All the gaskets looked good! I am re-assembling tonight.

What you will need: Phillips screwdriver, razorblade to cut cable ties on fuel line (only if you need to remove fuel pumps), 10MM socket, rags for gas, a buddy or child to pump the primer bulb.

                Fuel Pumps

Nothing else needed if it's just the pumps you are ordering.
I replaced the two on my Pro V 200 same as Stevo..
It's as simple as he describes..
