2004 90 4 stroke kills in rev.???

Hello,
Posting for father-in-law, seems that when prop gets infested with grass/ weeds(we're on missisippi) and he reverses to clean out prop engine kills.Does not kill going into forward or netrual just reverse,it will idle in reverse but when putting power to it, RPM'S it dies. Any ideas before he takes it in to get it scoped at dealer? thanks, Nate

Anyone? they scoped it today and adjusted carb's $150 later still not fixed.You put the rpm's to it on the open water in reverse it dies even tied up to dock put the rpm's to it and it dies. Its fine doing the same in neutral and forward. THANKS, Nate
