I just purchased a 1986 Yamaha 2 Cycle Outboard, used as a kicker on a small sailboat. The shift level was very stiff but it would shift. The other day the horizontal gear shift shaft broke with motor in neutral. (Part: 6E4-44111-71-EK). Is there a way to manually shift the engine into forward until I get the part and repair the shift lever? Andy

Not sure what model you have but probably would have to disconnect shift lever activate shift linkage by hand.

I have a similar problem with a 1990 4SD but can't get the old shaft out of the housing - I think there is a single o-ring holding it. I pried the outer o-ring out.
Did you have any luck fixing yours?
