motor starts fine and revs well in neutral - but once in gear it will not rev and go - have any ideas - regards

Sounds like you need to pull and clean carbs as long as you have good compression and spark on all cylinders

I do not think so, I do not have one of those but I think that low tank oil level or motor over temp will cause the motor to go into the safe mode. I believe the timing is retarded to limit the RPM and that is easy to check with a timing light

Sounds like my 40 Hp problem - I cleaned the carbs & problem went away for about a day - So this is likely the area to concentrate on . Pretty sure it was the lower carb as I could almost cover the throat without running any different

I will put up with it till pulled out this fall unless a really nice day shows up with little to do Keep us informed if the cleaning helps

Auto lube should still pull oil? Anyway only run idle speed for a few seconds each start up & at end of trip

I am not talking about the oil mix, just about fuel/air mixture being lean. It will eat pistons if run that way.

Well had a chance to try cleaning again This time with spray carb cleaner which I could not get in small town I live in
Now 100% & can idle right down better than ever
