  • Oil injection 150hp 2 stroke

80 gallon fuel tank, 2 gallon oil tank. At 40:1 they should run dry around the same time. While filling gas I noticed I consumed hardly any oil. Aux oil tank on engine under cover is at right level, emergency switch works so the flow from oil tank to the aux oil tank seems ok. What can go wrong between aux oil tank and engine? Engine running fine and has not overheated.

Just went thru this on my boat. For oil transfer to take place automatically the trim sender must be saying the engine is in the down position and the float switch in the remote tank must be made (i.e. oil level in remote tank ok). If the remote oil tank level switch is faulty (indicating low oil level) the yellow light on your consol should be lit. To check if your oil metering pump is working I ran my engine on a portable tank with premix and disconnected the oil lines to see if there was flow. Not sure how the engine could run thru 80 gallons without oil and not sieze.

Great call. My trim indicator doesn't work properly. I don't know if its the sender or the gauge, which leads to my next question. I'll look for the answer or start that thread. Thank you.

I am satisfied that oil is moving from remote tank to engine tank as it should, despite my faulty trim gauge. Is there anything that would interfere with oil flow from engine tank to engine? You'd think if engine is running, it would take the available oil, no matter how the engine is trimmed.

The trim sender will only affect the remote oil tank pump. If you are not using any oil from the engine mounted oil tank then I would look at the oil deliver system from there to the engine. The outlet hose from the engine mounted tank could be clogged, the oil pump could be air bound etc. If you are sure your remote tank is automatically transfering oil I would test the output of the oil injection pump as mentioned above.

Check your service manual for the procedure to test the oil flow and how much should flow at a certain RPM and the run on premix and measure the oil that flows and compare , adjust if needed and retest. Lower RPMs should use less oil per gallon of gas

I thought oil injection ran a motor at 100:1 at idle. Thought I read that in my manual somewhere.
