problem with lighting coil/any advise?

I just discovered a tiny rip on the inside of my lighting coil,i could see some small amount of copper also.I wraped onc with elecrticle tape/engine ran better,but still missess ocassonly on the top cylinder.Doe i need to replace the lighting coil or maybe use a heavier tape?
