yamaha serial number problem

i just purchased a yamaha 50tlrnc 2004 50 hp motor and boat went to register in the state of okla serial number on the bill of sale and associated paper work have k in the serial number and on the engine itself it does not have a k in the serial number the dealer who sold the motor and boat to me says there is suppose to be a k within the serial number but i have pictures there is no k anyway does anyone know where i can validate a serial number on the motor as valid or invalid? thanks

Have the dealer run the serial number for Warranty registration and give you the print out using serial number on motor.
