I just picked up a 1985 9.9 FT EXK model for my sailboat. I have 2 questions.
a) I need to lock my steering as my boat has a rudder. The lever pin does not reach the lock plate located on the swivel bracket. The pin does not seem to have been severed. When positioning it into forward or reverse, the motor angles left giving me no control with my rudder.
b) Due to its age, I am concerned that once I do find the solution of getting the pin to reach the plate, that the plate itself may crack & break (looks like its made of plastic) especially with the torque created when putting the engine in forward or reverse.
Does anyone know what is going in with the pin not reaching the plate and can the plate crack with age?
