no reverse

i have a 1993 yamaha model 25ELHR outboard that keeps slipping out of reverse. the lower unit is apart now and all gears appear to be ok. i do have to get a new cap lower casing as a mechanic damaged it trying to remove it. im not shur what to look for on the clutch dog to check it. also, what parts should be replaced now that the lower unit ixs apart?

The engagement cogs on clutch dog and gear are probably worn.
