non starting 300hpdi

hello everybody,
friend of mine had a limp home mode (engine not going over 2000 rpms) it is a 300hpdi 2006.cooling system ok,,oil tank levels ok,, filters all ok.
he had to limp home like this for 3 hours as he had no choice. he had to reach shore. upon arriving engine shut of,,and did not restart. it cranks fine,has good compression,all looks great.has spark etc,,,will crank,but does not fire up.
engine is getting fuel . any quick suggestions out there??? would be highly appreciated.regards ,BMB

maybe a bit more to the point:
what can cause (which sensor,etc) can literally cause the HPDI not to start.

this is a bit urgent,,he is stranded with the boat,,and no real yamaha dealer in sight.is there such little info on these engines???

If has good spark and good compression then probably a fuel problem possibel low fuel pressure from medium or high pressure fuel pump.
