  • trim and tilt reservoir bolt

Hello. We own a Yamaha 1988 outboard Model 90ETLG. Very dependable besides a leak somewhere in the tilt apparatus. Noone could find the leak without much expense so we've been adding transmission fluid to the reservoir every month or so for the past 2 seasons. Now, the bolt appears stripped and we're afraid of forcing it back in. We've ordered a new bolt 6H1-43829-00-00 and 2 O rings 93210-09350-00 per diagrams in this website. Hope we've ordered the right parts. And, does anyone have any experience similar to this? We don't mind adding fluid as opposed to a costly fix but hate to have a worse problem with a broken bolt. Thanks.

Are you sure the leak is from the bolt ? I have the same engine and the leak was from the rams. Fill the resivor with fluid then raise and lower the engine a few times. If you see fluid on the tops of the trim cylinder, that's where the leak is from. Be careful in removing these caps: there are 3 gaskets on each ram to replace. Parts are #(51,53,54) 6h1-43822-10-00, 6h1-43861-10-00,90380-16109-00. Good Luck

Thanks. Why do you say to be careful? Is it difficult to put back together or is fluid going to spill all over the place.
