Well I did it..Really screwed up big time. Bought a new battery and in a rush did not stop to realize the poles were reversed from the old battery I was removing and hooked the leads up back wards on the new one. I smoked the rectifier and replaced it $240 later. Took it for a long run yesterday. Now I have a miss (engine runs rough and stalls) at low RPM say under 1500, in this 2002 Yamaha FX80TLRA. At High RPM the engine runs strong and fine and the volt meter it showing a continuous 14 volt charge. Looking to see if we have a Yamaha mechanic that could answer a couple of questions or have any suggestions for me? Other than pull my head out of my butt. Need some serious help though....
Could the stator be bad if I am getting a good 14 volt charge on my volt meter and able to run at high RPM? What would be the indication if the coils were heated and bad? Could it be the CDI unit if so any way to test it? Any ideas on how might I be able to isolate the problem part? Again, it is just the low RPM that is in trouble and I see misses at.
