I am in the market for a new boat in the 2004 to 2005 range, the model of boat i am looking at comes with either a 225 or 250 4 stroke. Are there any specific problems with either of these engines ? It seems like a good bit of them say they have had the powerhead replaced, is that a know problem for these ? Seems weird so many of them needed powerheads with only a couple hundred hours. Thanks for your time.

My (3) 2004 F225's had sereve corrosion in the exhaust system, had to replace everything from the block down. Drop the lower unit and look up the muffer with a flashlight, it is easy to spot. If it needs replacement the parts will cost ~2k per engine but the new parts are coated with a teflon like material. Good luck.
