  • 2002 Yamaha 25HP Four Stroke and water flowing out holes

Just bought a jon boat this weekend. The outboard has two holes on the front upper part of the cast section(between lower unit and engine) above the lower unit. Is it normal for water to be oozing out these two holes when engine is running hooked up to garden hose with muffs? They would be right across from the tilt cylinder. It is not the actual water pump hole because it is pumping water out that hole. I can't find a diagram in manual that shows the two holes on the front upper part of the casing. Another question, is it ok to use a transom saver with four strokes or should they be left down all the way? I am worried about leaving the motor down that it will hit something on the road but don't want to tilt the motor up to far and ruin the motor. How far up can you tilt it for trailering without damaging engine?

Not sure which holes you mean but you will see water from holes on gearcase which is below the water line when boat is in water. You can use a transom saver as long as it fits on motor ok, don't want metal to metal contact.

overflow holes for water to get out in winter

Talked with a mechanic and he said it is holes for water to escape in winter time so it doesn't expand and crack case.
