  • Trim Indicator Adjustment

I have a 2001 F80TRLZ with power tilt & trim. Went to the lake this week and discovered the indicator shows 3/4 up when the motor is all the way down. Does anyone know if there is an adjustment and how to do it?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

If it is set up like my 1996 Yamaha 150's, it has a tilt indicator tab on the pivot of the motor right below the cowl. It is a plastic ring that is held on by one screw and has a plastic tab that pushes against the indicator sensor when the motor goes up and down. The tab on mine broke. Or, if the screw came loose, the ring pivoted on the shaft and needs to be repositioned and tightened up. There is a small tab on the inner side of the ring that fits into a small hole on the pivot shaft. Either way, it is very inexpensive and easy to change. Hope this helps, Thanks, Doc

Yes, there is a tab as mentioned that pushes a little plastic sensor arm.

On mine, I had to calibrate it by loosening the screw, adjusting the tab and then it was good. You use an ohm meter on the trim sender to make sure it is right.
