I just got charged ($108) a second time for an impeller replacement on my 1992 8hp Yamaha. It had been used less than 10 hours in non-sandy bottom freshwater and was pumping water when I took it in. I can't help but think I'm being ripped off....Any Thoughts?

I took the motor in (4th time out it suddenly would only run while being choked and I guessed it had a clogged hi-speed jet....it was pumping water perfectly) for a carb clean and it supposedly quit pumping water while in the shop. Funny, it did the same thing when they had it just last fall. That time I was shown a ruined impeller. This time I was told the impeller was slightly scored. So, they cleaned the carb, replaced the impeller and then detected and repaired a bad fuel pump. I'm now out $400+ for the two visits.

I feel your pain about shop prices....
A worthwhile investment for you would be to get a shop repair manual and do the work yourself.
Changing a water pump impeller is quite easy.
Most shop manuals have photos or drawings, outlining exactly what you would need to do.
An assortment of metric wrenches and sockets, a few rags and your good to go.
