I recently purchased a boat with a 2000 Yamaha 115 2 stroke. I checked compression, it is fine. When we tested the motor, the owner attached the hose, squeezed primer ball, started right up. Had not been started that day. When I get it home, it thinks it needs government approval to start ! Spins over fine, just will not fire. I hear the choke activating. After about 10-5 second tries, it finally starts to fire a little. Then next try a little more, then a little more, then it will start. When it is warm, it starts immediatially, but if it sits for a hour or more, back to hard starting. I do not smell gas, so it does not seem to be flooding.
I prime the ball, hold choke in, turn the key. Seems do do better if throttle is not advanced. Any ideas or starting procedures ?
