  • 50HP Reverse Problem

I have a 2003 50TLRB. It is very hard to get into reverse and grands as it goes in. It seams to run ok once it in. The throttle lever is very hard to move into reverse but ok to forward and motor runs great. Where should I start looking? Cables or lower end? I can't find anything wrong but seems to be better if I lub the throttle.

Loosen the throttle friction screw on front of control box to determine how much of your friction is there. There's a spring loaded detent on the top of the shift shaft directly under carbs that may need some oil or grease. Throttle lever controls shifting and throttles so check it all out to locate friction, worst case you may need a new cable.
