I need to replace the starting and deep cycle batteries for my 2004 225 outboard. It is a Scout brand center console boat. The manual for the boat says to stay with a flooded cell battery. This type of battery is becoming difficult to find, while there are many gel and AGM types to choose from. Do I need to worry about the warnings that I have read about possible damage to the DC charging system or significantly decreased battery life? I appreciate your advice.

I purchased my Century center console in 2007. It came with 2 Optima batteries. The only thing I had to make sure of was that my external battery charger was capable of charging this style of battery.
By the way my father has replaced his batteries in his boat already and mine are going strong. We purchased boats 2 months apart.
