  • help with a tilt lock issue and advise for trailering

    hello all !

ok so I tilted a HPDI 300 up today and hit the road for about an hour , i tilt the motor up and then flip the lock down and then trim down a bit to rest motor on the lock arm , I have done this before

but today when I got home the lock arms both sides were mangeled and bent bad i guess the motor was bouncing up and just crushed it ?

is using this lock the best way to trailer ? or just leave down on trim arms , which is bad for them I think, the thing to do is use the lock and a strap to hold motor down ,,, any ideas ? have you seen this happen

    thanks very much

owners manuals say those are for locking motor in the up position while working on motor not for trailering. You need a transom saver bar for supporting the motor during trailering.

Better to use a trailer support instead of tilt locks on motor bracket. Yamaha sells one that goes over port trim ram that works good.

My book says your motor weighs 804lbs....that's a lot bouncing up and down on that little transom lock. You've got to get a transom saver. They sell them at Walmart.

*** my information has from the owners manual list the weight 381 Lbs. As far as the transom savers at wal-mart they will not fit my trailer as it for a lowe roughneck series boat. I really wish that this lock would work on my engine.

The part number for the Yamaha trailer support is MAR-MTSPT-YM-08, Not sure why it doesn't come up on web site(I will find out) but it is available for $47.37 and can be ordered by phone from boats.net.

No sorry I didn't pay attention that is for a F90, The F90 uses a single ram power tilt so it would not work on it. It only will work on Power trim system that has the three rams.
