  • 2007 F150 Changed Water Pump now clicki

I am frustrated. I changed the impeller on my 07 F150. Everything looked good. Everything went together just fine. I also changed the gear lube. Used yamaha lube with yamaha hand pump. Filled it straght up and down until lube came out of the vent hole. Cranked it up, telltale flowed like it should, all was good. Took it to the lake to run it, and there was a rattle when I put it in gear. It shift into and out of gear just fine. Low RPMs it sounds like the top of splines are rubbing or there is a clicking noise coming from the foot area. Noise coincides with the RPMs. Noise goes away after 700 rpm or so and all is good again. I pulled it apart and tried to reseat everything, but nothing seems to help.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

May be prop chatter if using a stainless steel prop which is ok and nothing to worry about. Did you fill gearcase with oil by pumping into bottom screw until oil runs out top screw?

Dose this motor have the locking collar on the drive shaft above the pump impeller that you need to pull up on shaft while seating it to keep from having the drive shaft from bouncing and causing noise at low RPM in gear?

I lubed main shaft and the prop shaft when I reassembled all of it and changed gear lube with pump from the bottom up. I do have a 19M SS saltwater series prop. Without the prop, there is no noise in the lower unit. With the prop, there is the rattle/knocking/vibration in the lower unit when running on the muffs at low RPM. Above 700 it is fine.
I took it out yesterday and left the boat ramp with no noise at all. Idle zone speeds are high enough RPMs that there is no noise. There were times yesterday when I did hear the rattle but that was only right after shift and getting to operating RPMs. It ran great all day.
Its just frustrating because the noise was not there before I changed the impeller. The noise is definitely coming from the lower unit though. I am taking it in tomorrow morning. Hate to waste the money if it is nothing, but hate to tear it up worse if it is.
