1990 Yamaha 150 2 cycle steering tube

I had to replace tube after cutting cable which corroded inside tube. How do I line up tube to engine mounts to get it back in? Seems impossible. Tilting pistons seem to be in the way. What kind of grease do I use and can I modify tube with grease fittings? Presently, only way to grease is to remove the cable and apply grease.
