  • 2003 200 ox66 starting problems

2003 yamaha 200 hp ox66 has sat for a couple years due to illness and trying to get it up and running. after reading posts here, this is what ive done so far.
replaced both fuel pumps, opened vst and cleaned inside of tank as well as vst screen/filter. Soaked the vst pump overnight to get varnish etc buildup out of pump, attached the pump to 12v and it sounds like its running.
reassembled everthing. to eliminate a possible fuel issue i bought a small portable gas tank and ran the line to the inlet of the engine fuel filter, the fuel pump is getting 12v and the vst is filling with fuel.
when i try to start it it turns over but will not start. i do not have a fuel pressure gauge but if i push on the schreader valve on top of the vst i do get a spurt of gasoline out, no idea as to what pressure though. any help to get this running would be greatly appreciated

Do need to check the pressure, if pressure is ok then may need to have injectors cleaned.

yea figured as much, so from what i understand. when the key is turned on and there is 12v to pump then there is around 35 psi at schreader valve. if the pump runs is there anything else that could keep the pressure from being at 35 psi. like i said i applied 12v to pump and it sounds like its running. also is there any way to check the output of the pump (ie gpm, pressure output at the pump, etc) to verify if the pump is outputting properly, from what i understand if the pump is running it is normally good, just trying to avoid the large $$$$'s of a new pump if there is something else. could injectors clogged reduce psi at schreader valve

there are filters and screens in the system that need replacing and the injectors have screens that plug also. Sounds like you need a service manual for your motor. get the Yamaha one,

been looking thru fuel diagrams for my engine and besides the filter in the vst tank and the fuel filter inside the engine compartment , the detailed parts descriptions do not show any addtl filters etc in the fuel system. not saying there not there but wouldn't a yamaha detailed parts schematic show them.

is one of the diagrams ive been looking at, there are 3 diagrams total. i understand screens may not be shown.

been looking for the "yamaha service manual" at local boat stores and only come up with the SELOC one is this the one you mention or is there a official yamaha service manual

also do the clogged screen(s) (if they are clogged) prevent the pressure at the vst from acheiving the proper pressure or should the vst pump provide the proper 35 psi regardless.
me thinks if any screens etc clogged it would prevent vst from acheiving proper pressure but this is my first boat and i defer to the experts

              YAMAHA MANUAL STORE
The manual will give lots of info on repair and maintenance
restricted screens and filters will not allow the proper flow through them, may get enough for low RPM but not high RPM.
I believe they have screens at the injectors but not sure if anywhere else on that motor

well here's an update, remove fuel rail and injectors, tried to remove the filters on the injectors but was not successful (did not easily come out and did not want to break), sprayed into screens with carb cleaner and reinstalled all injectors and fuel rail, remove spark plugs which were covered in black, cleaned spark plugs and reinstalled plugs, tried to restart engine the engine starts and runs for a few seconds then shuts off,the fuel bulb stays hard and the fuel filter is still full of fuel. making some advances. trying to borrow fuel pressure gauge to verify fuel pressure at schreader valve
